Our founder J. Frank believed completely in the notion of community-focused family business. His feelings were that no one would serve the consumers as effectively as people who lived among them, and he knew that his dream of having a coast to coast brand and an alliance of retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers was the key to helping independent grocery retailers maintain equal footing in the face of rapidly growing chain competition.
More than 80 years later, things are very much the same. Everywhere you look our world is challenged and yet the foundation of family business is still strong. As are the IGA brand, the alliance our founder created, and today's IGA retailers—who are just as energetic and conscientious as the ones before them, and very much a stabilizing force in the communities they serve.
We're still here—and still thriving in this industry—because IGAers have a drive to make each and every day more productive than the last. It makes sense that our IGA Global Rallies are both well-attended and well-received. In this one event each year we have the ability to make our companies and ourselves as individuals better for the days ahead than we have been for the years gone by.
So today I offer one final bit of encouragement. Even at this late date it's not too late to make plans to join us at the IGA Global Rally to learn, share, network and prepare yourselves for the year ahead. And for those of you who are already confirmed, embrace this opportunity by listening, asking questions and getting to know your fellow IGAers from around the world. There is insight and knowledge to be gained from every member of IGA. This is your opportunity to learn from your fellow family members—IGA retailers, wholesalers and Red Oval partners alike—and apply that knowledge where it really counts—in the day-to-day workings of your business.
Yours devotedly,
Tom Haggai
