Becoming a True Community Center with IGA

 February 9, 2012

In preparation for next week's 2012 Awards of Excellence Banquet at the IGA Global Rally in Las Vegas, The Independent View today profiles IGA USA International Retailer of the Year Guy LaPerle. Read on to learn why LaPerle believes IGA is important to his retailing success.

I have been an IGA retailer since 1956 and in that time I have witnessed both my business and IGA grow and mature. Over the years IGA has worked on and refined its retailer resources, and yet they never lost touch of the core community-based values that are as important to me now as they were to my parents when they founded the store. As the IGA brand and its resources became stronger, so did my business, and so did our ongoing commitment to serve our community the best way we know how each and every day.

Because IGA is LaPerle's and LaPerle's is IGA, using all the tools available to us is as natural as taking a breath. I want to not only participate in IGA's marketing events, but to fulfill the creative opportunities presented by them to connect with my shoppers in every way. I carry all of the IGA brand items that I can get into my store and promote them aggressively in my weekly flyers because it's a brand that my shoppers and I both believe in. And I use the IGA Coca-Cola Institute to give my employees a very high level of training because I am proud of my people and I want to continue to see them grow and develop.

When my customers speak of going grocery shopping they say, "I am going to the IGA." I am touched and rewarded every time I hear it because I know that "the IGA"—LaPerle's IGA—has become just what it's supposed to be: the true center of the community we know and love so much. That's why we're IGA, and why we plan to be so for a very long time to come.

Thanks,

Guy LaPerle
