Emlenton IGA Reaches More Than Half the Town with IGALink!

Emlenton is a really small community and we're pretty isolated around here—especially when it comes to technology. There's no other grocery store in town and the nearest grocery store that would have even a corporate website is about 20 miles away, so we were really excited when we heard about IGALink. The way we saw it, having a site that was personalized for our own community would draw people in and the content that came with the site, like the recipes and shopping list, would help keep shoppers coming back.

We started getting the word out that we had a site by putting our web address in our print ad and also on our receipts and our monitors at the front end. That was working well, but our real success came from reaching out to the shoppers who are a part of our fuel rewards program. Now when shoppers sign-up for the fuel program, we automatically register them to receive our grocery newsletters. We make sure to send out at least one newsletter each week—including one that sends shoppers to the website for our online ad, which is available in advance of our printed ad. This newsletter is great for us because it gets the ad out to more people and it creates a reason for them to visit our site.

We've had our website for about a year now, and it looks like we were right about the community being ready for it. Between the ad, the information we post about our community and the website's shopper tools, we have shoppers visiting our site every day. And I'm proud to say that we have nearly 650 registered shoppers—we think that's a pretty impressive number when you consider there are less than 1,000 people in the whole town!
