IGA retailers are known for doing their part to help out with charitable causes. Today, Nat Caputo of Joe Caputo and Sons IGA shares how he teamed up with Chicago Bears' player Robbie Gould to help raise money for charity.
If you live in Chicago, it's pretty safe to say you've heard of Robbie Gould. He's a popular guy in this city not just because he's currently the most accurate place kicker in Chicago Bears' history, but also because he's known to be an all-around great guy who puts a lot of effort into giving back to charitable causes.
My son recently had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gould at a fundraising event, and after a few minutes of talking they discovered that Mr. Gould shops at our Palatine Joe Caputo and Sons IGA store when he gets a chance. My son is a marketing major and always looking for a way to get some good publicity for the store, so he asked Mr. Gould if he would be interested in teaming up in some way to raise money for his charity, The Goulden Touch, an organization that provides funding for education, social services, health and wellness, and medical research in Chicago. Mr. Gould was thrilled, and volunteered to bag groceries in exchange for proceeds from a small raffle being donated to his charity.
Mr. Gould showed up in the store one evening during the week to bag groceries, hand out tee-shirts and sign autographs for two hours. We sold tickets for a football raffle for $5 a piece or five for $20, and we had a long line of people waiting to meet him. By the end of the night we had raised more than $500 for The Goulden Touch, and made a whole bunch of excited Bears fans really happy!
We do a lot of things for our community here at Joe Caputo and Sons IGA stores, and it's really great to see a professional athlete who is taking the time out of his busy schedule to do the same.
