Bob Buonomano of Windham IGA in Willimantic, Conn., owns the smallest grocery store in a community that is also supplied by five major chains—and yet his store has been thriving for decades. The reason is simple: Bob's professionally fresh cut beef, veal, pork, lamb are a huge draw for shoppers in and around his community.

A former butcher himself, Bob also started the Help Save the Butchers! program (www.helpsavethebutchers.com) to support butchers in independent grocery stores, and give them the tools they need to differentiate the meat sold in their stores from that sold in superstores. This innovative program has drawn the attention of the entire industry, and yesterday landed him a video interview with Supermarket News Editor-in-Chief David Orgel.
