A message to IGA retailers from...
Director of Marketing
What does HOMETOWN mean to you? What does it mean to your community? With IGA Hometown Fest—IGA's second community marketing event of the year—you have a full trimester (from May through August) to work with your team and your community to celebrate your community pride. Whether your event is focused on summer holidays, community kids, or hometown heroes, it's sure to be a success with just a little planning on your part.
How you choose to do that is up to you—as we know from years past, even the simplest ideas can generate a lot of buzz. Refer to the Alliance site for ideas, instructions and resources to help you get started, like these Hometown Fest best practices that have worked for your fellow IGA retailers in the past:
• Susanville Supermarket IGA in Susanville, Calif., hosted a Wounded Warrior-themed KidsFest event where they worked with Red Oval partners to help generate excitement, raffling off Giants tickets to raise money for WWP and getting the Oscar Mayer Wiener Mobile for the day.
• Dissmore's IGA in Pullman, Wash., worked with Red Oval partner Nestlé Purina and a local animal shelter to host a pet food drive and onsite pet adoption.
• Lake Region IGA in Hawley, Pa., hosted a classic car show fundraiser to raise money for the foundation they created for families in need in their community.
• Copiague IGA in Copiague, N.Y., participated in a local Polish festival celebrating their community's heritage.
And remember, we want to hear about your event. Email me details, photos and stories and you could be chosen to share your Hometown Fest "Best Practices."
Happy planning, and as always, don't hesitate to contact me should you have questions about this or any other event.
