(CHICAGO, IL) – IGA today announced that IGA>D Queensland has been named the 2012 recipient of the IGA Global Licensed Distribution Center of the Year President’s Cup award. IGA >D Queensland will be honored with the award at the 2012 IGA Global Rally Awards of Excellence Banquet at The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, on Mon., Feb. 13.
The IGA Global President’s Cup award is presented annually to an IGA Global Licensed Distribution Center (LDC) that demonstrates extraordinary effort in support of its IGA retailers and the IGA Brand.
According to IGA CEO Mark Batenic, IGA>D Queensland overcame a number of significant obstacles in 2011, including maintaining operations during flooding that affected over 70 percent of the state, and also following a Category 5 Cyclone that impacted much of the northern part of the state.
“IGA’s Licensed Distribution Centers play a vital role in providing services far beyond that of supplying food,” IGA CEO Mark Batenic said. “Day in and day out they work with IGA retailers to foster connections that make the IGA Brand strong and IGA stores the ‘preferred place to shop’ in communities around the world. In 2011, IGA Distribution Queensland went even further by working with local communities, the state government and emergency services to ensure people had drinking water and food during and after Queensland’s historic natural disasters, going so far as to establish temporary warehousing so that IGA stores could get supplies to help their local communities.
“IGA>D Queensland also faced a challenging economic climate in Australia and a very tough competitive environment, and yet still managed to grow sales, open new stores and further improve service to customers, reinforcing the IGA brand promise of serving people ‘how the locals like it’,” Batenic said.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh congratulated the company for bringing the award to Queensland.
“IGA worked hard during the disasters to look out for the community they serve and for that they deserve to be commended,” she said.
