Green Schoolhouse Series

Sustainability and education combine in a community learning environment.

For more than 80 years now, IGA Retailers across the U.S. have been giving back and supporting worthy causes everyday—not just because it’s good business, but because it’s the IGA way.

Today IGA is taking the support IGA retailers are so well-known for to the next level  by addressing two key concerns affecting communities across America—sustainability and education—through involvement with the Green Schoolhouse Series.

What is the Green Schoolhouse Series?

The Green Schoolhouse Series is a unique collaboration bringing together corporations, foundations, school districts, and communities, to build high-performance, environmentally sustainable, Green Schoolhouses in low-income public schools. The Green Schoolhouses are designed for use as classrooms during the day, and as community centers during after school hours.

How is IGA Involved?

In the summer of 2010, IGA joined forces with Kraft Foods to create an in-store sales program designed to fund the building of Green Schoolhouses. Every Kraft Foods/Green Schoolhouse product purchased by IGA shoppers got us one step closer to our goal. The result? Kraft Foods is funding the building of five Green Schoolhouses, all featuring IGA kitchens for school and community use!
