TREVOR BOROWIAK NAMED IGA'S
2003 INTERNATIONAL RETAILER OF THE YEAR
CHICAGO, IL – Trevor Borowiak, owner of nine
IGA Supermarkets in Southern Ill., has been named one of seven IGA
2003 International Retailers of the Year.
Borowiak was chosen for the annual award from the 4,400 IGA Retailers
worldwide. A committee of Food Industry experts selected Borowiak
based on his exceptional performance in areas ranging from leadership
and innovation to hometown involvement and employee development. He
was honored at IGA's 2003 International Retailers of the Year Awards
Dinner Ceremony, held on Tuesday evening, March 11, during the 2003
IGA Global Summit in Palm Springs
, Calif.
"Trevor Borowiak has been a dominant force in the IGA Family for
years," said Dr. Thomas Haggai, chairman and CEO of IGA. "His work
to strengthen the power of the IGA Banner is legendary. Known to his
local media as "Mr. IGA," there is no doubt that Borowiak exemplifies
the spirit of Hometown Proud. I'm proud to call Trevor Borowiak an
IGA International Retailer of the Year."
Since joining IGA in 1992, Borowiak has purchased nine struggling
grocery stores, converting each of them to the IGA banner. Today all
nine stores are profitable, and provide stable jobs for 400 people
in Southern Illinois .
"In the years that I have been associated with IGA and SUPERVALU,
I have had the benefit and blessing of working with and supporting
countless entrepreneurs and outstanding families in the food industry,"
Borowiak said. "Without their help, I could have never become the
success that I am today, nor could I have won this prestigious award."
