IGA/NASA SPACECAMP SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST TO BEGIN AS SCHEDULED
CHICAGO, IL – Explore the Store, IGA and U.S.
Space Camp’s combined Space Camp Scholarship Program will begin
on February 22nd, as previously scheduled. The annual Program, which
centers on a space-themed essay contest, has given 120 children the
opportunity to attend Space Camp since its inception in 2000. The
program’s progress will not be affected by the recent tragedy
involving the Space Shuttle Columbia.
IGA’s Official Statement:
“We here at IGA stand in mourning with the rest of the world
for the loss of the Columbia crew,” Bill Benzing, executive
vice president and chief growth officer said. “We feel, however,
that these fallen heroes would not want the work of NASA to be discontinued
because of this disaster. With that in mind, we plan to continue with
the IGA/U.S Space Camp Scholarship Contest as planned. In doing so,
we demonstrate that the hopes and dreams of the Columbia crew will
live on in our communities’ children.”
