- The
IGA Coca-Cola Institute and The Nielsen Company are conducting an
International Category Management Workshop July 17–19 at the The program will begin with a two-day hands-on
workshop that will help participants understand the eight-step category
management process and apply the process to a detailed case study. Armed
with a basic understanding of category management, students on the third
day will hear a variety of experts discuss trends shaping category
management and how it works from very different
perspectives. Program topics will include analyzing performance
of categories, determining category roles, and developing, communicating
and implanting a category management plan. According to IGA Coca-Cola
Institute President Dr. Paulo Goelzer, students who complete the workshop
will improve their knowledge of category management, analytical thought
processes, and their ability to think strategically.
“From theory to practice, category management is a basic competency in the retail industry,” Goelzer said. “We’re pleased that our partnership with The Nielsen Company is allowing us to bring this important workshop to IGA and the industry as a whole. Once the students have completed the workshop, we feel confident that each of them will know how to use category management to get the right products in front of the right shoppers in the right stores. In addition, this workshop can help manufacturers become valuable business partners for retailers and perform the expert role in the category.” Registration for the workshop is open to analyst to manager level associates who work in the CPG/FMCG industry for a manufacturer, wholesaler or retailer, and have limited to intermediate knowledge of category management.
