NGA: Celebrating Three Decades as the Voice of the Independent Grocery Industry

 October 29, 2012

Since its inception in 1982, NGA has not wavered in its mission to ensure independent grocers have the opportunity to succeed and serve their customers. The independent sector truly represents the entrepreneurial spirit of America and it's that spirit and innovation that has been the foundation of NGA for the past three decades. As an IGA retailer you understand that better than anyone. IGA was built on the idea of interdependence, that independent retailers are stronger when they join together to share their experiences and learn from each other.

This month we kicked off our yearlong celebration to not only recognize the important contribution and vision of individuals such as NGA's former President and CEO Thomas K. Zaucha, who helped mold NGA into the organization it is today, but to also look forward to the future and the role NGA will continue to play as the representative of the independent sector.

For the past three decades NGA has been the leading voice in Washington for the independentNGA Magazine 2012 grocery sector, ensuring a level playing field for retailers and wholesalers to compete and serve their customers. Some of the nation's best supermarket operators are independent grocers—like IGA retailers—and it's through NGA that independents are afforded the unique opportunity to exchange best practices and concepts with their peers in an industry that is constantly evolving to meet the demands of today's consumer.

To commemorate this special occasion, NGA published a 30th Anniversary magazine and video that includes a timeline of NGA's history and personal testimonials from past chairmen, current members and industry leaders like your own Mark Batenic. We hope you enjoy this commemorative magazine celebrating NGA's formative years and its promising future—a future where we look forward to sharing a productive and profound relationship with IGA and its progressive independent retailers!
