Flowers Foods: Partnering to Bring Your Shoppers the Best in Baked Foods

The past two years have been marked by rapid growth for Flowers Foods and we made solid progress toward our goal of having our fresh breads and snack cakes available to at least 75 percent of the U.S. population by 2016. I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you our progress and how being a Red Oval partner has contributed to our success.

After acquiring Tasty Baking Company in Philadelphia in 2011, we expanded the iconic Tastykake brand throughout Flowers' core markets in the South and Southwest. At the same time, we also expanded our distribution of Nature's Own breads, buns, and rolls into Philadelphia and other parts of Pennsylvania. In June 2012, we acquired Lepage Bakeries in Auburn, Maine, which brought with it outstanding products, strong regional brands, efficient bakeries, and access to new markets in the Northeast. And finally, just last month, we introduced Nature's Own into Lepage's core markets in New England, bringing the nation's No. 1 soft variety bread brand to millions of new consumers.

Our growth would not be possible without strong trade partnerships like the one we have with the IGA family. We are impressed with IGA's commitment to serving its communities. Like IGA members, Flowers knows that as a responsible corporate citizen, we must give back to the communities that are home to our bakeries and the consumers we serve. Our bakery subsidiaries across the country support worthwhile charities important to their local communities. As an IGA private label supplier, we're proud to have participated in this summer's IGA hot dog and hamburger bun campaign that raised more than $265,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Over the past few weeks, there has been a great deal of change in the baking industry due to the sudden withdrawal of a major competitor. As we continue to expand our business, Flowers Foods remains focused on making sure our customers and consumers have the baked foods they need, on serving the market, and on driving sustainable growth that enhances value for IGA and all our stakeholders.
