IGA Partners with Wounded Warrior Project in Second Annual IGA Cause Marketing Initiative

Author: IGA News

(Chicago, IL) IGA today announced that it has joined forces with Wounded Warrior Project TM (WWP) in its second annual IGA Exclusive Brand national cause marketing initiative. During this national campaign—running in participating IGA stores from Memorial Day Weekend (May 28) through Labor Day weekend (Sept. 3)— a number of WWP co-branded IGA Exclusive Brand products will be available for purchase in participating IGA stores. By fall of this year, IGA plans to donate up to $200,000 to WWP.

In 2011, $120,000 was donated to WWP in the name of IGA retailers. Sales from specially marked cases of IGA exclusive brand water during the promotional period resulted in a $100,000 donation. IGA Red Oval Family partner Kraft Foods also contributed in IGA’s name an additional $20,000 from the positioning of water-enhancement beverage displays in IGA stores during the promotional period.

For 2012, IGA will again make available specially marked cases of IGA bottled spring and drinking water, and new this year will be the specially marked packages of WWP-branded IGA hotdog and hamburger buns. Like last year, Kraft will be joining in with a contribution from water-enhancement displays placed in IGA stores. Kraft brands featured in the beverage shippers include MiO, Crystal Light, Kool-Aid and Country Time.

“Last year we were overwhelmed with the support our independent IGA retailers and their IGA shoppers gave this Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) cause marketing event, and we are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to work with our IGA retailers, Licensed Distribution Center partners, Exclusive Brand suppliers and Kraft Foods to raise money and awareness for WWP again in 2012,” Dave Bennett, IGA senior vice president of Procurement & Exclusive Brands, said. “We look forward to seeing how IGA’s innovative retailers will use this event to benefit WWP’s important mission to honor and empower our nation’s wounded service members.”

According to WWP, nearly 47,000 of our nation's servicemen and women have been physically wounded during the current military conflicts, with hundreds of thousands more estimated to be recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression and brain injuries. WWP assists injured service members and their families through a holistic approach to their recovery, providing programs and services to aid their physical rehabilitation and improving their mental health and well-being.
