Best Practices

product-availablity

Product Availability

IGA retailers are keeping shelves stocked by:

  1. Adjusting store hours to allow for restocking.
  2. Placing purchase limits on low-inventory, high-demand items.
  3. Managing expectations through in-store signage and social media posts updating customers on what products are available and when more will be available.
  4. Working closely with suppliers to identify local manufacturers and producers of key essential products.
  5. Partnering with other sectors experiencing a decline in demand such as food service.

Safety Measures.

IGA retailers are keeping our stores safe for shoppers with additional safety measures, including:

  1. Closing self-serve stations such as salad, hot and coffee bars and converting into full-service stations when possible.
  2. Offering dedicated store hours for the elderly and immunocompromised to ensure they can safely shop the store.
  3. Installing sanitation stations throughout the store for shoppers and shopping carts. If that is not possible, having employees manage the process and sanitizing between each customer use.
  4. Posting reminders for staff and shoppers about proper hand washing protocol (see IGA available signage).
  5. Encouraging social distancing when in the store—for both shoppers and employees.
  6. Placing tape on the floor to keep customers adequately spaced in high-volume traffic areas such as checkout lines.

Community Outreach.

IGA retailers are going above and beyond to meet the needs of their communities by:

  1. Sharing positivity to their communities.
  2. Offering a reduced/free lunch for kids under 18 in lieu of school closures.
  3. Replacing a page of their ad with information on hand washing and steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (see available IGA resources).
