Awards of Excellence

IGA's prestigious Awards of Excellence Program honors the exemplary brand-building accomplishments of our members. The program’s rigorous and challenging standards create a fair and equitable process for the determination of member awards.

IGA International Retailer of the Year

Each Licensed Distribution Company is asked to nominate one IGA Five Star Retailer as a candidate for IGA International Retailer of the Year by November 9, 2018.

  • If you need an updated list of your 5 Star Retailers, please contact IGA’s Nancy Vicelli at nvicelli@igainc.com.
  • Please chose only ONE store per COMPANY. Licensed Distribution Companies with multiple locations must choose one candidate. LDCs may choose a past IGA Awards recipient.
  • Complete the accompanying IGA USA International Retailer of the Year application in its entirety, and include a cover letter outlining why the retailer was chosen for this honor.

How it Works:

The nominee from each LDC will be:

  • Awarded the title IGA (insert LDC) Hometown Proud Retailer.
  • Entered into competition for the title of IGA USA International Retailer of the Year.

Each IGA Hometown Proud Retailer will receive:

  • $500.00 to be used for an employee celebration, luncheon, or at the retailer’s discretion.
  • A special recognition plaque.
  • Complimentary registration for the IGA Global Rally in San Diego, February 22–24, 2019.
  • Complimentary round-trip travel and hotel accommodations courtesy of IGA.

Each IGA Hometown Proud Retailer will be visited in December of 2018 by the IGA Retailer of the Year (ROTY) selection committee, which includes IGA executives Doug Fritsch, and myself, as well as 2018 IGA USA International Retailers of the Year Gary and Terrie Baker, who bring a new level of peer review that we believe is the right approach for a retailer-led organization.

The IGA ROTY selection committee will determine which ONE of our IGA Hometown Proud Retailers will be named the USA International Retailer of the Year based on the criteria as noted in the ROTY application and LDC cover letter explaining why the retailer was chosen, store visit and retailer essay (see application for more information).

AT THE IGA 2019 GLOBAL RALLY: All IGA Hometown Proud retailers will be recognized in the following ways:

  • Will receive an IGA Hometown Proud Retailer Awards blazer with honorary crest.
  • Will be seated along with their guests at their own reserved table at the IGA Awards of Excellence Brunch.
  • Will receive an invitation to join the selection committee for a private Hometown Proud Retailer Recognition Dinner on the evening of Thursday, February 21, 2019. Each retailer is invited to bring a spouse/guest.

The IGA USA International Retailer of the Year will be announced at the Awards of Excellence Brunch, and honored alongside the IGA International Retailers of the Year from other countries (one each from the countries represented).

Best Practice Awards

IGA retailers find creative solutions to turn challenges into opportunities all day, every day. Now you can earn industry-wide recognition for your ideas when you enter to win IGA’s inaugural Best Practice Awards.

This year’s IGA Global Rally in San Diego will dedicate a full day to exploring best practices from IGA retailers. Submit today and you could be one of 10 finalists presenting your best practice at the IGA Global Rally for the chance to win Best Practice Awards in one of three categories—each with a $1,000 cash prize! 

Here's How it Works

  • Click here to fill out a simple form to get your best practice in the running (if you’ve already submitted a best practice in 2018, you’re all set—no need to submit again). All submissions received before Dec. 15, 2018 will be eligible.
  • A committee of IGA members and industry experts will choose 10 best practices finalists from among those submitted.
  • Finalists will be announced the first week of January.
  • Each of the 10 finalists will receive one free registration for the IGA Global Rally, where their best practice will be presented on Day 1 of the Rally, Friday, Feb. 22.
  • Best practice winners will be chosen in three categories by open voting throughout the industry.
  • Winners will be announced at the IGA Global Rally Award Brunch; each of the three winners receives $1,000 cash prize and coverage in a special-edition industry publication.
