Nielsen Sees Slowing Pantry Staple Sales as States Reopen
In their weekly COVID-19 shopping insights, Nielsen shared that as states gradually re-open, last week saw the slowest pantry loading since the start of COVID-19, with both closed and open states reporting similar changes as overall growth rates level off.
Produce surpassed Meat and Dairy growth for the first time since the start of the pandemic, which is driven by potatoes, grapes, and pre-packaged salads. Despite slower growth, shoppers are continuing to stay loyal to brands, with branded products outpacing total store and private label growth.
