Tony Chachere Spices Up the Holiday Season

IGA Red Oval Partner Tony Chachere has a growing family of Creole-inspired products that includes marinades, dinner mixes, sandwich sauces, gravy mixes—and now, salad dressing! Find out more about this latest product, and get tips for merchandising Tony Chachere’s upcoming holiday offer in the National Digital Ad in this Q&A with Director of Marketing Celeste Chachere.

Q: Tony Chachere is probably most well-known for Creole Seasoning Blend and rice mixes. What inspired you to branch out into salad dressing?

Yes, our famous seasoning blend garners a lot of attention because it’s the #1 all-purpose seasoning in the spice category. But we also make the #1 injectable marinade, eight varieties of southern-style rice dinners (#2 in the category), and a host of other Creole-inspired products. Innovation is important to us, and with people gravitating to healthier product choices, salad dressing was an obvious fit. We wanted to create an option that caters to everyone without sacrificing flavor. We think we’ve done that with the line, which includes Creole-style Ranch, Italian, and French dressings.

Now we’re finding the dressings can be used on just about anything from salads to chicken dishes, pastas, and shrimp scampi—and it also works great for braising, basting, and marinating, which makes it great for the upcoming holiday season.


Q: How do you plan to help IGA retailers increase their sales of your products? 

We had record sales in 2018, and are poised for tremendous growth in 2019 with the introduction of new products like this that generate even more incremental category sales. We believe we can grow the independent retailer’s business as well as ours by making these products available to IGA’s large sector of independent shoppers, and we plan to do that throughout the rest of the year and in 2020 through aggressive marketing and promotional programs—like IGA’s National Digital Ad—that allow IGA retailers to promote Tony Chachere products at a very competitive price point.

Q: You have a National Digital Ad coming soon with one of Tony Chachere’s all-time favorite products. Tell us about it.

Yes, Thanksgiving is a big time for us because our top-selling injectable marinades are perfect for holiday turkeys and hams. Our “buy-2-injectors-and-save-$1” IGA National Digital Ad offer runs November 3–16.


Q: What do you suggest retailers do to get the most from this offer?

First, contact your wholesaler or specialty food supplier to get Tony Chachere injectables, then it all comes down to making sure shoppers know about it. We’ve had a lot of success with merchandising the injectables in the meat department near the turkeys and hams, or in a big display at the front of the store alongside other Thanksgiving staples. And don’t forget the signage provided by IGA. It makes all the difference!
