Help Isom IGA recover from devasting floods
With more than 700 active shootings taking place at major grocery stores in the past four years, it is critical that store associates are aware of what happens in an active shooter situation and how to respond to best protect themselves and their customers.
Through the Retail Learning Institute (RLI), retailers and their associates can learn the three ways to survive an active shooter situation: run, hide, defend. RLI has published an updated course, 2024 - Active Shooter Awareness – Supermarket, specifically for supermarkets. In this course, students will learn best practices to escape a dangerous situation, hide until first responders arrive, and defend themselves as a last resort.
The "Run. Hide. Defend" video provides information on how to survive an active shooter event in a retail environment. This video recaps best practices for surviving an active shooter event as recommended by local law enforcement.
DISCLAIMER: The video contains gun violence that some viewers may find disturbing. It is important to note that all individuals must use their own discretion during an active shooter event.
Other resources provided for free by the federal government can also be of use. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has published guides, plans, and posters that can help retailers in developing emergency response plans. Find additional resources from the FBI and the National Retail Federation in those links.
